Information about Graham's Port

The history of W&J Graham's goes back about three centuries. In addition, it was the brothers William and John who started the textile trade in Porto. This was specifically in the Northwest of Portugal. In 1820 the two took 27 barrels Port as a payment of an outstanding debt. This inspired the two so much that they focused on making the best Port in the Douro region.

By now we all know the Graham's 10, Graham's The Tawny Port and Graham's 40-year old Port.

THE 19TH CENTURY

The company experienced enormous growth in the 19th century. This gave the company impeccable status and a great reputation for making Vintage Ports. IN 1890, Graham's was one of the first companies to invest in the Douro through the purchase of the Quinta do Malvedos estate.

The available knowledge and technology has grown enormously in subsequent years and as a result the vineyards are perfectly equipped. Graham's Port and specifically the Malvedos vineyards are considered the best vineyards in the country.

Not much later, Graham's Lodge was built. This of course happened in the famous place Villa Nova de Gaia. This renovation was partly responsible for the enormous growth in this century. Nowadays, all Graham's Port comes to the Graham's Lodge to mature. The company now uses more than 3,500 oak barrels, which are surrounded by powerful concrete walls.
